Electronic lap scoring system

3.1 Mounting Pole

• Mount a length of 20mm (P.V.C.) electrical conduit towards the rear of the vehicle in a vertical position prior to the event.
• The top of the P.V.C. will be 1700mm from the ground.
• The P.V.C. pipe must be mounted in such a way that it can not rotate.
• The P.V.C. pipe could be heated, bent and flattened to make the mounting easier, but the pipe above the mounting point must be vertical.
• A slot must be cut into the pipe, to accommodate the passive card,(see diagram below).

Electronic Lap Scoring System To simplify the manufacture of a PVC pole for lap counting the following amended drawing is provided. In addition, for 1995 a system to allow for wider access at the lap counter will be trialed. This requires the poles for Division 1 & 2 vehicles to be fitted with a pole to a height of 1500mm and Division 3 & 4 vehicles to be fitted with poles to a height of 1700mm. At the lap counting point Division 1 & 2 vehicles will use the inside of the track and Division 3 & 4 vehicles will use the outside of the track. As a result less restriction should occur. This modified system will be monitored closely during pre-race passes and for the first hour of the event to verify that all laps are being counted. If laps are being missed the lap counting point will revert to single lane as in past events. NOTE: To minimise the change of laps not being counted the PVC mounting pole must be - positioned to give correct height (1500mm Div 1&2, 1700mm Div 3&4) mounted so that pole is not able to rotate mounted on the left side of the vehicle if possible (definetly not to the right side of centre of vehicle) If further information is required, contact Leon Parker, Aberfoyle Park High School - tel. 8270-4455 or fax.8370-5819

3.2 Fitting the Passive Card

• The passive card will be fitted by the lap counting officials, on Saturday morning, after the vehicle has passed all registration and SCRUTINEERING requirements.
• Teams are requested to proceed directly from SCRUTINEERING to the lap scoring caravan.
• The card will be attached by officials at this location.
• The card will be mounted, facing into the centre of the track, as vehicles will be racing in an anti-clockwise direction at the track.

3.3 Checking the Electronic Lap Scoring System

• Once the card is fitted, the vehicle must make 5 consecutive passes of the card reader, to verify the card and readers' operation.
• This testing needs to be done at least 2 hours prior to the event, i.e. by 11am Saturday.
• It is the team's responsibility to ensure that the card remains attached to the P.V.C. pole and that the pole remains attached to the vehicle in the manner described.
• This is particularly important in the case of an accident or rollover.

3.4 Availability of Results or Reports

• Throughout the race period, up to 5 printed team reports will be available to each team manager on request. Each report will be numbered and the series of all reports will give details of every lap completed by the vehicle.
• For each hour of the race, a printed report will be posted at the lap scoring caravan for each class including a report for all vehicles overall.
• Fastest lap report will be posted periodically at the lap scoring caravan.

3.5 T.V. Coverage

• Television coverage will be transmitted throughout the track site on U.H.F. Band.
• Electronically generated reports will be periodically superimposed over the broadcast.

3.6 Manual Lap Counting Provision

• The system of Electronic Lap Counting has proved very successful.
• However, in the case of system failure, each team is required to make available 2 people to act as Lap Counters.
